Do you really want to know how many calories you’re consuming when downing a few at the pub? Just in case you do, JD Wetherspoon will be listing the calorie content of drinks in all its 900+ pubs, including those across Nottinghamshire, from March 8.
The company, which has six boozers in Nottingham city centre and more than a dozen around the county, is the first pub chain in the country to take this bold step.
Boss Tim Martin said it was a logical move after becoming the first pub company to highlight the number of calories on the food menu.
He said: “We want our customers to have as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions about the food and drink they enjoy at our pubs.”
The pubs affected include The Roebuck Inn, The Company Inn, The Joseph Else, Lloyds No. 1 Bar, The Free Man and The Gooseberry Bush, all in the city, as well as The Trent Bridge Inn, West Bridgford, The Samuel Hall, Sherwood, The Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren, Stapleford, The Woodthorpe Top, Mapperley, The Lady Chatterley, Eastwood, The William Peverel, Bulwell, The Ernehale, Arnold, The Last Post , Beeston, The Butter Cross, Bingham, The Pilgrim Oak, Hucknall, The Widow Frost and Stag and Pheasant in Mansfield and The Sir John Arderne in Newark.
The Roebuck in St James’s Street is one of the Spoon’s pubs that will soon be displaying the calories of drinks.
It could make you feel guilty about all the calories you’re stacking up. On the other hand it might prove very useful if you’re watching your weight.
Or you might not be bothered in the slightest as you order anther pint of Strongbow (187 calories) to wash down your fish and chips (1,258 calories),
Either way, here’s the calorie breakdown for some of Spoon’s most popular drinks:
Pint of Stella Artois lager: 227 calories
Pint of Guinness: 204 calories
Pint of Foster’s lager: 204 calories
Pint of Strongbow: 187 calories
250ml glass of Trivento Malbec: 185 calories
250ml glass of Bolla Pinot Grigio: 185 calories
25ml of Absolut vodka: 56 calories
25ml of Gordon’s gin: 53 calories
