34 couples are set to tie the knot at Nottinghamshire register offices and approved premises this Valentine’s Day (Saturday14 February)

Register offices in the county are managed by the County Council and their registrars also undertake wedding and civil partnerships at wide range of approved venues across the county.

The following ceremonies are taking place at the following venues on Valentine’s Day:
• Mansfield Register Office – 11 weddings
• West Bridgford Register Office – four weddings and one renewal of vows
• Worksop Register Office – ten weddings
• Newark Register Office – three weddings
• approved venues – six weddings.

Philip and Joy Mason from Clifton are having a renewal of vows ceremony at West Bridgford Register Office on Saturday.

Philip, 37, and Joy, 29, have been married for ten years and their children Harry, 4, and Lily, 5, will be attending as ring bearer and bridesmaid along with 76 guests for the main ceremony.

The event is to be followed by a reception at Clifton Community Centre.

Joy said: “We sneaked off to Greta Green for our first wedding and a lot of friends and family were disappointed they missed out on our big day.

“We promised to renew our vowels on our tenth anniversary so we could have the wedding we never had the first time.

“It’s going to be traditional and I’m excited that our loved ones can share our big day this time round! We wanted it to be on the nearest Saturday to our original wedding date, which also happens to be Valentine’s Day so it’s all worked out nicely.”

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “Valentine’s Day tends to be a popular day for couples to get married in our register offices and as it falls on a Saturday this year the number of weddings booked is even higher than usual.

“Whatever day of the year you choose to tie the knot, our priority is to make your ceremony special and tailored to you and your partners’ wishes.”
